What happens after a conference committee reconciles differences?

The reconciled bill is sent directly to the President.

Both chambers vote on the conference report.

The conference report is debated in a joint session.

Final passage by both chambers and presidential action.

After differences are reconciled, the next step is final approval by both chambers, followed by action by the President. The conference committee produces a conference report with the reconciled bill text. Each chamber then votes to adopt that report. Only once both the House and the Senate have passed the conference report does the bill go to the President for signature or veto. If the President signs, the bill becomes law; if vetoed, Congress can try to override the veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers.

Why the other options don’t fit: it’s not sent directly to the President without both chambers approving, so that option is incomplete. While one chamber voting on the conference report isn’t sufficient by itself, the key step is that both chambers must approve and then the President acts. The conference report isn’t typically debated in a joint session, since the standard path is separate floor votes in each chamber.
